LAWN FAWNATICS CHALLENGE 141 – LOTS OF HEART

For this challenge I had to go deep into my craft room to find some Lawn Fawn product! I used Stitched Party Banners and the Color My World stamp set, both are pretty old but I'm using what I have. I also found some Lawn Fawn bakers twine that I think was tied around the product in my order.

I cut the smaller of the two banners in that set out of some Papertrey Ink white card stock. Using the crayon image I created a colorful background using a variety of Clearly Kelly by Hero Arts inks. For the sentiment, I die cut the circle from the banner set and stamped 'You color my world' using VersaFine Onyx Black ink. To make it stand out from the background a little more, I cut a pinked edge circle from some Stampin'Up Tempting Turquoise card stock using Papertrey Ink's Limitless Layers 2 1/2" Circle Die set. Adding the bakers twine to the holes at the top of the banner layer finishes off the card. I popped it up on foam tape on a standard A2 (4 1/4" X 5 1/2") card base.

Thanks for checking out my card today :o)

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

I decided to participate in the new Monday challenge over on the Simon Says Stamp blog. The theme is Food and/or Drink. I chose to use a new Tim Holtz Thinlits Colorize die from Sizzix, CELEBRATE. I used the birthday cake image. I cut it from some pink and cream Sizzix Brite-ons shimmery paper and from some gold metallic card stock from Hobby Lobby. I used that same gold card stock to die cut a Spellbinders Happy Birthday sentiment. I embossed a 4" X 5 1/4" piece of white Papertrey Ink card stock using a Darice embossing folder called Half Circle Pattern. I then layered that over a 4 1/8" X 5 3/8" piece of the same pink shimmery Sizzix paper I used to die cut some of the cake elements from and lastly, I layered the whole thing onto a standard A2 (4 1/4" X 5 1/2") white card base.

Hoping to participate in more challenges and posting them here. Thanks for stopping by!

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge

Getting back into stamping after quite a long break! Decided to jump in by playing along with Simon Says Stamp's challenge which was Anniversary/Wedding and they are showcasing Art Impressions stamps this week. I just so happened to have the perfect stamp from them called Tina Set #4215. It's an older stamp from 2013. For the greeting I used Lawn Fawn's Smitty's ABC set. I colored one with Copics and used MFT's Cloud stencil for the background. I also used the largest rectangle from Lawn Fawn's Large Stitched Rectangle set to cut it out.

Tried my hand at watercoloring using Tim Holtz Distress inks. I definitely need more practice!

Loving the gold trend and some recent finds at Target.

It's been a while since my last post :( Guess I'm not a very good blogger. Need to work on that. I have been enamored with the recent 'Gold' trend which is funny considering I used to hate all things gold. I am loving the fun, bold, graphic way it is being used. On a recent trip to Target I found some fun scrapbooking products in their Dollar Spot. Wait till you see all the gold :)

The alphabet stickers are uppercase letters in cream on gold. They remind me of typewriter keys. You get 210 stickers. I am really digging the packaging on these products too - kraft, gold and cream.

Next up are the kraft stickers. These could be used on scrapbook layouts, cards or packages. I think I will probably try stamping and embossing something in gold on them.
I love this fun ribbon in cream and gold and silver. The packaging on this is so fun too with the die cut bow window. I think it would be cool to incorporate onto a layout somehow???? You get 18 inches of four different types of ribbon.
I also picked up this roll of silver glitter tape. I wish it had come in gold but I like the silver too. It is 1/2 inch wide tape and you get 5 yards of it. It is self adhesive, which I love and I can't wait to see how well it sticks.
I thought these cute little page flags would work well on my layouts. You get 30 of each 5 designs. I will probably use my Tim Holtz tiny attacher to attach these to a layout or I may glue them to one of the gold paperclips I picked up and add it to the layout or I think a row of these peeking out from under a paper layer would be fun.
The last item I picked up in Target for use in my scrapbooking was this gorgeous spool of cream and gold twine. You get 10 yards on the cute little cardboard spool.
Last but not least from Target was this pack of pillow boxes in kraft with silver polka dots. I love me some polka dots *swoon*. You get 4 boxes that I think are sized just right for gift cards and I will pop these in with my gift wrap stash.
I made a quick trip to Office Depot looking for gold paperclips and refill cartridges for my label maker. I had no luck on the cartridges but I did find some jumbo gold paperclips which I think will be fun to add ribbon or washi tape to and add to a layout or card.
While at Office Depot I scored a couple of gold metallic Sharpie markers on sale for 50 cents each!
Well that's my recent scrapbooking/card making purchases. Hopefully I will put some of these products to use this week and get a post up soon showing what I did with them. So who else likes the gold trend?
'Til next time,
Ruth.

New rooms for my ten year old girls!

Well that didn't go as planned ;) So let's try this again shall we and see if I can keep up a bit better. I have a few more fun parties to share with you and over the summer my twin girls turned TEN! Say what? I don't know where the time has gone. For their birthday this year they wanted to redo their bedrooms (they each have their own room) so that's what we did. For my daughter Ciara we went with teal and lime and for my daughter Tara we went with lemon and grey. It was a lot of work as I was on a pretty tight budget which meant a lot of running around to find what I was looking for at the right price. Most items came from Ikea, Target or Walmart. I started with the bedding which came from Bed, Bath & Beyond and of course I used coupons :) Then, with a pillow sham from each set, I went around looking for items that would either match or coordinate with our colour schemes.

Both girls were delighted with their rooms. Let's hope these last them until they leave for college!

A Puppy Party

This puppy party was for one of my twin daughters. For their 8th birthday I decided to give them their own separate parties in a theme of their choosing. Up until now I had always done just one party for both of them. We started planning about six months before their birthday which is at the beginning of July. Starting this early was great as it gave me the time to find items that matched our theme and color scheme, some of which I was able to find on sale too which was another bonus.

We chose to go with pink and purple for the colors. I made all the paper goods including the invitations, which I neglected to take a picture of, 'Happy Birthday' banner, the cake bunting (which I used on the cupcakes instead of a cake), treat bags and 'thank you' cards.
I also made all the treats for this party which included cupcakes with chocolate paw prints for decoration which I made using a mold, brownies and rice krispie treats which I cut into the shape of dog bones using cookie cutters and not shown here were chocolate dogs on a stick which I also used a mold for.

I used my daughters stuffed dog toys as decorations throughout the party - you gotta love free props! I also used those great paw print balloons I found at Hobby Lobby along with plain pink and purple ones.
For activities the girls painted puppy sun catchers, did dog themed foil scratch art, played Hot Dog (my take on hot potato) using a stuffed hot dog dog toy and a guess the famous dog game.

They also watched the movie Marmaduke and made no sew fleece pillows using dog print fleece. So cute!

This was a fun party and my daughter loved it which of course makes all the hard work so worthwhile :)
